8 noble things

i've decided to make 8 "noble" things every month. by which i mean anything, functional or no, made from recycled, donated, or 'already laying around my house' materials.

first project; retablos

i actually started this project last month at school. these are called "retablos"--devotional objects typically venerating saints or icons like frida or elvis. we're focusing on characters from children's books. my sisters and my brother's girlfriend helped me with the stickers; above, the definitely noble hermione granger.
best part? all of these were made from cardboard, magazines, stickers, and donated toys--total cost? a 30.00 gallon of mod podge. and we made over 300. almost pure profit from every donation we get!

second project; meta chairs.

so, i absolutely love the furniture in our house. we threw it all together amazingly well--it's cozy, retro, with great colors and textures. so i've been making prints of our funky chairs, just for fun.

i've been wanting to immortalize my favorite chair of all, which i have dubbed the "nest chair". i have memories of this chair from when i was a little kid; reading books with my brother...hiding under blankets and pillows...chillin' with my stuffed animals in our cozy little nook. i used to try and sleep in it, which i would not advise to anyone who values their neck or back.

so, i decided to make a pillow of the nest chair, to nest inside itself. as if the chair was thinking of itself, and magically popped into being in miniature pillow form. here's what i have so far.

the thing is, i'm at a crossroads with this project. i can't figure out how important it is to make the scene exactly like the one pictured; because design wise, might work better to move that wall hanging over the chair, and the lamp to the right of the chair to fill the empty space. and leave out the green and orange chairs, which may clutter the scene. the floral pattern on the pillow's wall definitely changes the space. but i think it would be cool when it's 'installed' to have it replicate as close as possible its surroundings in the room.

i suppose i could just rearrange our room to match the pillow. ha.

any thoughts on this design conundrum, i'd appreciate them.

thanks ya'll! tata for now.

  1. What about if you cut out the pieces of furniture you wanted to include but may move at another date and put Velcro on the back of them so that they're removable? You can also create new cutouts for a new piece you may acquire down the line. Or use felt pieces... Just what popped in my head. :-) P.s. I miss you! How have you been??
